A mace is a concussive/bludgeoning weapon of a heavy metal head fixed to a long shaft. Morgoth carried a special mace into battle with Fingolfin. The strength of the Dark Lord and the weapon made holes in the earth which led to the great Elven-king’s death.

What would you imagine happened to Sauron’s Helmet. From my understanding in the books, Sauron was never described to have had armour. But going purely off the movies the helmet is clearly shown falling and landing after his deathly explosion.
