How much does it cost to track a shark?
For $3,000, you will be given the opportunity to name your shark and follow his/her movements on our website using an interactive Google Earth map. This fee covers costs of tracking via a satelite tag.
How can I track my shark?
Every Shark Tracking Bracelet includes access to your very own shark to track. After you checkout, while you wait for your bracelet to arrive in the mail, you’ll get emailed a link to view your shark’s tracking page.
How long does a shark tag last?
SPOT tags are secured to the shark with plastic bolts and can stay on the shark for up to five years. They use radio transmission to transmit the shark’s location via satellite whenever the shark’s fin breaks the surface during a period in which a satellite is overhead.
How do you track great white sharks?
The shark tracker is enabled by Ocearch, a non-profit group that tags sea animals in order to collect data on them that can be passed on to scientists. Using a ship called the M/V Ocearch, Ocearch staff lift sea animals such as sharks out of the water with a hydraulic platform.
Does tagging sharks hurt them?
The satellite tags are carefully attached to the dorsal fins of sharks with the utmost consideration to shark health and safety. This attachment doesn’t hurt the shark are designed to eventually fall off the fin.

A z-ping is when the tracker is not out of the water long enough. Basically the sends a signal to the satellite, but it is not strong enough to communicate all of the data needed to get a location for the animal.

There is no scientific evidence that tagging causes any short- or long-term harm to the shark or changes in behaviour.

Leave the shark in the water while tagging. Release prohibited species immediately. Do not gaff a shark you plan to release.
