skate. is an upcoming free-to-play instalment in EA’s Skate series, but it’s not a reboot. skate. creative director Cuz Parry gathered some of the senior figures at Full Circle, along with Skate Twitch streamer Brandon Thomas to discuss where the game’s at.
Is Skate going to be free?
The most unsurprising surprise. So, if you missed the news, what was going to be Skate 4 has rebranded to just ‘skate. ‘ and will become a free-to-play game with many seasons of content planned, as announced in Full Circle’s vlog update.

Skate 4 will, indeed, be free-to-play. As revealed during a developer stream in mid-July 2022, the devs confirmed Skate 4 – or Skate as it is in fact known – will not come with a premium price tag, but will also not be pay-to-win.
When did Skate 4 come out?
Tom Henderson popped up again in late June 2022 to report that he expects a reveal for Skate 4 to come in July 2022, pinning the game for a 2023 release window and hopefully showing the first glimpses of polished gameplay, so keep an eye out for that.
Is Skate 3 on PS4 free?
Unfortunately, Skate 3 is not on PS4 and there is no way to play it on your PS4 either, as the console doesn’t support backwards compatibility. The game isn’t even available to buy on the PlayStation Store for the PS3, you can only play it if you have a retail disk.

EA shut down the game’s servers around the end of 2016. However, just prior to the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2018 in June and in late 2019 after Electronic Entertainment Expo 2019, EA reactivated the servers, leading to speculation of either a remaster of Skate 3 or a new title in the Skate series.
